Universal Health Care & Parental Benefits
In Canada, as long as you are a resident of Canada you will receive some level of health care, even if you are unemployed, student, or disabled. This means when you’re sick, you may see a doctor for free and the cost of your prescribed medications is covered to some extend. New parents can take up to a year off and collect employment benefits. This is considerably longer than our neighbors to the south who get no guaranteed paid parental leave.
Multiculturalism In 1971, Canada was the first country in the world to adopt multiculturalism as an official policy. By so doing, Canada affirmed the value and dignity of all Canadian citizens regardless of their racial or ethnic origins, their language, or their religious affiliation.
Same Sex Legalization
We legalized same sex marriage in 2005, long before most other countries. We were the fourth country in the world to do so. In many other places in the world, just being homosexual will land you in jail or worse, but here, we think that every couple, regardless of sexual orientation, is deserving of the same rights.
